Redemption

Last fall I posted that I was disappointed in ABC for what they did with LOST. In fact many people were quite displeased with that mini-season. SO with much anticipation those of us who are LOST fans were awaiting something more to come in February, and did we ever receive it. There have been more answers and yes more questions, but the mythology of the island is alive and well again and that is what truly drives the show.

Last Fall the season was slow and unappreciated because it became about what some men were doing to people on an island. Jack, Sawyer and Kate were all caged up and we were only revealed a story line of the others. This same story line could be placed in any of the other shows on television. I think that one of the great attractions to LOST is that there is something metaphysical about the island, something supernatural. Call it postmodernism or whatever, but people are longing to find out more about a “higher power.” Whether this power be God or something innate in us humanity is searching for it, we want it. When we do not get it in an episode we complain. We are content with only questions because we realize there is something supernatural that we might or might not understand, but we like it because it is greater than what we know. We search for it and love it.

Thus this is my LOST argument for the existence of God.

The music in my head

I do not read the Baptist blogs like I did a year ago. I had a friend tell me he was going blog free and I recognized the wisdom in that. The blogs I cut out are from those who are pretty much ignorant to some of the issues (not that I know what is going on). But I realized something today, when I do read some of these blogs I hear that ominous theme from the Lord of the Rings. It is the ring's theme. Upon recognizing this I chuckled to myself and thought about all the strife in the convention, whether in the blogosphere or not, and saw how it could possibly be just a diversion; something for us to focus on and forget that which we are called to do. Sure there are changes that need to take place, but lets make them and move on. Either you believe we have a world to save or not.

William

It has been two weeks and no true word on my blog about what I think about being a Dad. The delay is in part due to lack of sleep and an overwhelming fear of being behind in school and work. Things are starting to settle down and I thought I should take a moment to speak about William.

I a word he is wonderful. Of course this should be the attitude of any new father. For those who do not feel this way: shame on you! It is a great priviledge and responsibility to be a parent and one should take on the task encapsulated by love toward the child. In this case it is William and I had no idea how much I would love him or care for him and even now I cannot properly convey those feelings. Only those who have been there before can say, “I know what you are saying.”

William himself is pretty laid back. He cries for one reason only: food. I suppose he gets that from me. We have to feed him every 2-3 hours, something I still practice to this day. My favorite thing that he does is get this hugely inquisitive look on his face that wrinkles his whole forehead up. It is too amazing. I do not know what he is thinking about or how a baby thinks, but he is taking in as much as he can while he is awake.

I know now that I would do anything for him and want him to grow up knowing he was loved and supported. I pray every day that one day he will come to Christ, for nothing is more important than that. I do not know what other adventures this new thing called parenthood will provide, but I am not worried and up for the challenge.
